Stephen Hawkins:
"It is no good getting furious if you get stuck. What I do is keep thinking about the problem but work on something else. Sometimes it is years before I see the way forward. In the case of information loss and black holes, it was 29 years."

Descriptions on selected artists' works

Sidney Nolan
Inland Australia (1950)
From the dense and massive color, it is not hard to tell that Sidney Nolan used oil paint for this work. I think the reason he chose oil paint is,compared with watercolor, oil paint is less transparent and more contrastive between different colors. Moreover, oil painting is longer lasting through the passing of time than watercolors.

Ricky Swallow
The Arrangement (2004)

The material Ricky Swallow chose for this work is
limewood. Limewood is the best choice for sculpting because of its tenacity, less texture and soft. As seen from the picture, to achieve such vivid effect, I think Ricky Swallow used different types of gravers to do the shapes and details.
